Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos is a hotelier and real estate developer based out of New York City. She is the co-founder, President and COO of Flag Luxury Group LLC. Flag Luxury is a real estate development company with a primary focus on luxury and lifestyle hotel development and retail development. In her role as President, Olarte de Kanavos is involved in all aspects of Flag Luxury’s real estate initiatives, which include site selection, finance and acquisitions, branding, architectural and interior design, hotel programming, zoning and construction, and asset management. Having planned and completed over $4 billion of hospitality, retail, entertainment and residential projects, Flag Luxury is a leader in its industry. Notable recent projects include The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach; The Ritz-Carlton, Coconut Grove and Residences; The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club and Spa Jupiter; The Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach; The Wyndham Orlando Resort; I Shops Retail Orlando; I-Drive 360 Orlando entertainment and retail complex; the Harmon Retail Center on the Las Vegas Strip; and The Ritz-Carlton Shops South Beach. Flag Luxury currently has over $1 Billion of new projects in its pipeline in New York City, Miami and San Francisco. Prior to joining the Flag Group of companies, Olarte de Kanavos had just completed a Masters in Real Estate Development and Finance from New York University after several years working in New York as a commercial real estate financial analyst and a licensed New York State real estate broker.
Olarte de Kanavos is a member of The School of Hotel Administration Dean’s Advisory Board at Cornell University. She also serves on the Cornell University Council; she also, has a seat on The President's Council of Cornell Women; and is a member of the Major Gifts Campaign at Cornell. She was the guest lecturer in the 45th edition of the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Series at the School of Hotel Administration. Olarte de Kanavos earned a BS from the Cornell School of Hotel Administration and a MS from New York University in real estate development and finance. She was also the recipient of the prestigious Merit of Excellence Award in Philanthropy from Cornell University and was named Humanitarian of the Year at the Mary Haven Center of Hope. For the past 16 years, she has been a Board member for New Yorkers for Children, is the Founder and Honorary Chairman of the Friends Committee, and is currently Secretary of the Board and on the Strategic Planning Committee. In addition, she is actively involved as a Board member for Save Venice, Inc, the largest private foundation dedicated to the restoration of art and architecture in Venice. She has been a member of and chaired various committees for the Associates Committee for Memorial Sloan Kettering, Friends of Baby Buggy, The American Ballet Theatre and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Olarte de Kanavos was born in Bogota, Colombia and completed her high school degree in New York City where she now resides with her husband and three children.
